Tyler Brothers Donates T-Shirts for a Team at the Susan G. Komen 3 Day for the Cure Race
Tyler Brothers recently had the opportunity of donating some of our cancer related Girlie Girl T-Shirts for a team that walked in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure fundraising walk. This 60-mile, 3-day walk was held in Washington DC on September 23rd - 25th and our team, The Foxy Fighters, brought in over $13,000.
The team captain for the Foxy Fighters, Heather Pickett Chandler contacted us earlier this year to order some T-Shirts for the walk. Heather was searching for a shirt with the quote:
“Supporting the fighters, admiring the survivors, honoring the taken and never, ever giving up hope.”
She wanted this phrase to be used in her efforts for the SGK walk. Google took her to our Facebook page where we had placed a photo of our T-Shirt with that wonderful quote on it.
Heather expressed a desire for this shirt for her team and also asked if we'd be interested in donating the shirts. We were delighted to do so. All the team members – Heather, Janeen Kincaid, Elizabeth Bass and Britta Berge received a free T-Shirt to wear on the walk.
I asked Heather why she was doing the SGK walk. “I turned 37 and realized I haven't really done anything worthwhile.” Heather began fundraising in early February and had exceeded her goal by the end of February. “All I did was ask!” She said. “Toward the end, I quit getting donations, so I did a 'Pink Hair' fundraiser. For $40 or more, I would paint a strip of my hair pink. For $500 or more, I would dye my whole head pink. It only took me a week to make all my money.”

The Foxy Fighters started with 6 ladies on the team. One dropped out from lack of support and two more dropped out the week prior to the walk. One had a sprained ankle and one had school obligations. The walk went well despite the rain on the first day. “We ate lunch in a park with a rain poncho on and then when we got to camp after walking all day, we had to pitch our own tents. The next two days were much better and the weather was amazing.”
Heather told me they trained for the walk, but hadn't trained for hills and rain. “In training, we would walk 10 – 15 miles and then recover all week before doing it again. This was three days in a row of walking! It was physically and emotionally exhausting.”
Congratulations to all the women who participated in the SGK Walk. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we have put all our cancer T-Shirts on sale for $13.00 each. Some of the shirts are shown in an album on our Facebook page, but you have to call to order them, they are not sold online at TylerBrothers.net. Call for an order or come by the store to take advantage of this great deal.
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Major charities everywhere provide opportunities to increase awareness, raise funds for research into breast cancer's cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure. Tyler Brothers would like to take this time to remind women of the importance of early detection. If you're a woman age 40 or older, join the millions of women who get mammograms on a regular basis.
